The American Fox-hounds descended from a line of Hounds that were brought to the United States of America in the 1600’s from a line of French Foxhounds. Later, the Irish Foxhounds were mixed to its line. The American Fox-hound breed was developed specifically for the purpose of competition and is prized for their amazing speed.
One thing striking about this dog is its very warm and affectionate attitude. If you are thinking about making this dog watch over your house, you might as well bring the dog with you because it will only welcome strangers into your home.
Physical Appearance
The males of this breed stands around 22 to 25 inches, and weigh 70 to 75 pounds. The female stands 21 to 24 inches and weighs 65 to 70 pounds. Their coat is composed of very short fur and the color is usually a combination of white, black and brown. They have strong legs that are appropriate for their fox-hunting activities.
Grooming
While some dog breeds boast of their long furs and their very fashionable bodies, the American Fox-hound have only short hair all over its body. Some owners prefer to dress their American Fox-hounds with flamboyant clothes in order to attract attention.
