This breed is use in Whales in driving cattle since their low body shaped facilitates safe movement between cattle. Cardigan Welsh corgi is distinctly known for its height and its highly athletic & energetic nature.  They are a one-owner-dog who becomes wary against strangers.

Physical Appearance

This breed has a low and long body shaped, with upright ears. They generally appear to be fox-like. They have medium to large size of wide-set eyes, with dark rims. The tail is long and low-set. They have deep chest and short legs.  The coloration of their coat ranges from shades of red, sable, or brindle, black or blue merle, with small patches of other colors in the neck, and leg-areas. The undercoat is thick and weather resistant with longer and coarser outer coat.

 A male Cardigan Welsh corgi weighs 30 to 38 lb, while a female is 25 to 34 lb. They are 10.5 to 12.5 inches tall.

Grooming

A firm bristle brush is utilized to comb and brush there coat. Their water-resistant coat is fairly easy to groom. They should only be bathe when necessary, since they are generally
clean.

Mood

Cardigan Welsh corgi is an affectionate and sociable breed which becomes anxious around strangers. They are highly intelligent and energetic dogs which could easily be trained. However they may also show signs of aggression towards other animals if they are not properly communicated and trained. If trained and socialized at a young age, they become nice and friendly towards other animals or house-pets.

They are a perfect companion, who shows devotion and obedience to the owner. They are also very reliable and sociable to those they are familiar with.

With Children

They are considerate to little children with whom they are well exposed and familiar with. However adult supervision is still necessary. This breed is a one-owner pet that may show signs of aggression and dominance against strangers.

Training & Exercise

Cardigan Welsh corgi requires daily long walks. The owner should lead the way in walks to establish authority and leadership. This breed is very sensitive to strangers.  They are highly energetic breed which need constant physical and mental exercises and activities.

Health & Life Expectancy

The life expectancy of Cardigan Welsh corgi is about 12-15 years. This breed could easily gain weight when they are not physically and mentally stimulated. Obesity causes back problems. Additionally they are prone to PRA, Glaucoma and other progressive eye-diseases.
