The original name of German Pinscher is Deutscher Pinscher and these dogs can be traced as early as 1884. These are generally called guarding dogs but are also kept at home at pets. These dogs generally should not be kept out of the fenced area because of their instinct to look for prey. Some German Pinscher has become extinct at the time of world wars.

Physical Appearance

The German Pinscher is usually a small dog. The weight of this dog varies from not more than 25-35 pounds. The height of these dogs is generally between 17-20 inches. These dogs in general are very muscular, strong, powerful and agile. The ears of these dogs stand erect. Having a short and smooth coat, the different colors of the coat of these dogs include red, black blue etc. The coat of these dogs is short and smooth.

 

 

Grooming

Not too much time has to be spent behind the grooming of a German Pinscher. It is just ideal for persons who are working and do not have much time dedicated for the dog. The dogs are generally immune from allergies. Infrequent brushing keeps the coat in a fine condition since this breed has a lower affinity of shedding.

Mood

The quality that makes the dog a good watch dog is its protective and determined nature. They are generally very brave, loyal, lively and a daring breed. These dogs are quick learners and are very active. They love to take part in games and exercises. They are forceful, and are better for those owners who have some experience in pets. They are also very dominant and also very watchful and suspicious of unknown people. The German Pinscher barks a lot. It is very attention seeking as well as possessive about its belongings.

The German Pinsher goes along well with children who are grown up and considerate. The younger children should be gentle to these dogs otherwise there s a chance to get bitten.

Training & Exercise

The German Pinscher is a very active and agile breed of dog. They are very intelligent and are able to read the mind of its master. These can be trained very well. This can also be a very good jogging companion of yours since they are very fond of running, jumping and other activities and cannot be kept confined very long. They love games which includes fly ball, climbing etc. A very good trainer is needed to train these dogs because they are extremely strong headed. This bred can also be trained to hunt. German Pinscher also needs to be trained to socialize otherwise it becomes very jealous and possessive of its toys.

Health & Life Expectancy

German Pinscher is a generally healthy breed of dog having a life span of 12- 14 years. These dogs some times suffer eye problem and hip dysplasia.
