The Glen of Imaal Terrier may appear like a miniature dog but this breed proves it is rough and strong. Glen of Imaal terriers can hunt down foxes and English badgers that are almost the same size as them or even bigger. They are able to ground their prey and can silently kill them with their powerful physique.
Physical Appearance
The Glen of Imaal Terrier is medium in size when full grown. It can reach up to 16 kilograms and can stand 35.5 centimeters tall. It has a double coat of average length and is usually whitish-tan or wheaten, brindle or blue in color. Glen of Imaal terrier puppies have dark highlights that will eventually fade when they age. This breed has a big head, narrow muzzle and petite legs but the rest of its structure is well-built. Its hindquarters are especially well muscled giving them strength and power when running.
Grooming
Glen of Imaal Terriers are naturally hairy but you can decide not to trim its coat if unnecessary. Regular brushing of its coat will suffice. However, if you plan to enter your dog in a show, you might want to trim the hair all over its body except the hair on its muzzle and the hair in between its legs.
Mood
The Glen of Imaal Terrier is usually quiet and passive but can be aggressive if aggravated. They have generally good moods when they are being trained and are very smart. However, they have a tendency to chase other domestic animals like cats and rats and mistake them for prey.
With Children
Glen of Imaal Terriers are very playful but can sometimes be rough with children. It is not advisable to leave this dog alone with a small child since this dog is still a hunter and may put your child’s safety at risk. It is also not advisable to let children take this dog on walks since this breed can easily overpower a child if it starts chasing down prey.

Glen of Imaal Terriers are very active dogs. They enjoy running around and chasing prey. It is important for this breed to get enough exercise every day to stay happy and healthy. This dog is a good companion to bring along with the next time you go jogging.
Health & Life Expectancy
This breed is generally healthy and will only need usual vaccinations. However, there are rare cases that this breed developed eye disease and heart problems but other than that, they usually live at an average of 10-15 years. Also, this breed’s diet should be low in protein after one year of age.
