The Havanese
Havanese is a type of Bichon developed from Bichon Tenerife. They can be trained easily and they can adapt well to their environments. The Havanese has a very playful and extremely friendly attitude and they can go along well with people and other animals.

Fascinating Facts
Havanese was first bred in Cuba and was very popular among the wealthy class before the Cuban revolution. However, after the revolution the breed almost died out. An American breeder intervened to save the breed from extinction. Now, the Havanese is becoming increasingly popular in the US and other countries.
Physical Appearance
The average height for a Havanese is 8-11 inches while its weight is usually around 7-13 pounds. They are known for their distinctive fur which is usually curly or wavy. Their coats, that can grow up to 8 inches, are very soft like unrefined silk. The Havanese comes in a variety of colors from cream to gold to white, silver, blue and black.
Grooming
Like other Bichons, the Havanese has a coat that catches hair and dander internally, and needs to be regularly brushed out. However, to prevent immense grooming the fur can be clipped short. Some even clip the feet to create a roundish appearance. They are very prone to ear and eye infections so checking them regularly are a must. The teeth should also be brushed daily and is best when it is started as a puppy.
Mood
The Havanese is very playful compared to other dog breeds. They have a springy gait creating the impression that they are jumping instead of running. They are known to get along with other breeds even with cats and other animals. A shy, anxious or aggressive behavior should not appear in a Havanese.
With Children
This breed socializes well with humans. They love get the attention of the people around them by doing tricks and games so having children in the house wouldn’t be much of a problem. They are unlike other toy dogs that are either too delicate or too aggressive to tolerate children and, with proper care; they can be excellent companions even for small children.
Training & Exercise
The Havanese is a very clever breed. They have are always eager to please making their training relatively easy. Since they are very playful, the Havanese does not demand a lot of attention when it comes to exercise. A daily walk would suffice.
Health & Life Expectancy
The Havanese is generally a healthy breed. It has a sturdy build and can live to 16 years. However, like other pure breeds, they have some genetically-linked disorders. They can develop liver and heart diseases, cataracts and retinal dysplasia though these disorders appear when the dog ages.
