Fascinating Facts

These dogs are believed to have their origin in the Chukchi tribe. These dogs are known to have participated in the dogsled race way back in the year 1908. The traders were impressed by this active breed and started taking them to the different parts of the country. They became more popular when they had conveyed medicines to the sick Alaskans.

Physical Appearance

The dogs are generally medium size built and the height of the male Siberian husky varies from 20 to 23 1/2 inches and in case of females it is 20- to 22 inches. The weight of the Siberian Husky also varies from 45 to 60 in case of males and 35 to 50 in case of the female breeds. The dogs have a thick coat which helps them to survive through the cold months of the year. There is a double coat of smooth fur and the Siberian Husky sheds its undercoat twice a year. The color of the Siberian Huskies range from every thing between jet black to milky whites with colors like rust, copper, sable etc.The ears of a Siberian Husky are erect and triangular in shape and their faces hold a mischievous look.

 

 

Grooming

The coat of the Siberian Husky requires little maintenance. Very less brushing and bathing is required for this breed. The object of grooming the Siberian Husky is to clean the skin as well as to shed the dead hair off. As the Siberian Husky has a two coats, for grooming two things are important, one is the wide toothed brush and one is the bristle brush. Grooming should be done at the time of shedding to prevent excess loss of hair.

Mood

Siberian Huskies are very good with humans and treat them well. They do not guard the home when the owner is away and welcomes all the strangers. The bark of this breed is very unpleasant and high pitched. This is a very good family pet and can adapt itself to every kind of situation. It is a very lovable pet. This dog is not a one master dog and is never faithful to one person.

With Children

Siberian Huskies are very fond of children. They never harm children no matter what they do to them. Children can easily be left playing with these dogs. Siberian Huskies are extremely friendly by nature and are very lovable.

Training & Exercise

Training is important in case of Siberian Huskies. To gain respect and to make them understand the command of the master, training is very important.
Excessive exercise is not required for Siberian Huskies. Running, walking, are some of the exercise that the husk will do in your company and it will also keep them fit. However, growing pups should not be over exercised or it may injure the tender bones.

Health & Life Expectancy

Home made food is best for the Siberian Huskies. Eye problems like cataract, glaucoma, retina atrophy are common in the breed others like hipdysplasia, hypothyroidism are also common. Life span of theses dogs are 12-15 years.
