Fascinating Facts
In olden times, the Smooth Fox Terrier was used for bolting foxes. Bolting foxes meant driving out foxes from their hiding places so that they could be hunted by hunting dogs or human hunters. This breed’s white coat with black patches was ideal foxhunting because they were less probable to be mistaken for foxes.
Physical Appearance
The Smooth Fox Terrier is well proportioned with a well-defined head and elongated muzzle. Its ears are medium sized and V-shaped which fold forward towards the face. Its body is muscular and toned and its tail is straight or slightly curved. Its coat is flat, hard and is primarily white with black or tan patches that are usually found throughout the body. They usually measure 15 inches tall and weigh around 18 lbs which makes it a moderately sized dog.
Grooming
Grooming this breed is relatively easy. Its coat is short and will only need occasional trimmings. Regular brushing of the coat and trimming of nails is important to give a clean look. It is recommended that grooming be started as early as possible so that the dog will be acquainted and easier to groom as it gets older. Smooth Fox Terriers also have a reputation for enjoying grooming because they love the attention.
Mood
Smooth Fox Terriers make wonderful pets for the family. They can be trusted with children because of their affectionate nature. They are also very playful and always seek attention. If left alone or unattended, they may try to escape or may exhibit destructive behavior. Because they have well-developed hunting skills, they may also chase smaller animals or other pets.
